The word "Extreme" and what it means to me...

Everyday Baby and I, Christian Axness, are excited about the upcoming docu-series exploring different types of parenting that we were featured in last summer and I wanted you to hear it from me FIRST.

I have experienced so much positivity this last year regarding the filming of this show and I want to say THANK YOU! My intentions in participating with this show has/is to promote the ideas of "gentle conscious parenting" and I hope that you enjoy it.

In this crazy drama-filled world of mommy wars, mama drama and private FB groups bashing others I have found it intriguing to come right out and say that; "Yes...I am a gentle parent and I plan on breastfeeding my daughter for as long as she wants. Yes...I believe in home birthing, placenta encapsulation and, elimination communication."

Do I think that my parenting style is "extreme"?
Nope.

Do I believe that extended breastfeeding is "extreme"?
Probably.

Do I think that others are "doing it wrong"?
Wrong for my family...we have chosen this as the right way for us.

Do I think that exposing your child to chicken pox vs. giving them the vaccination is "extreme"? Nope. Thats how I got chicken pox!

Do I think that there are more "extreme" parents featured on the show?
Heck yea! I can't wait to watch...It will be interesting to see these styles. It may make our family look less interesting. Ha!

I am truly passionate about Mothers and I believe that if you are going to choose a way, a plan or a philosophy for your family then you should OWN IT and LOVE IT! I love being at the store and surrounding myself with local mamas and the coolest part is that WE ARE ALL DIFFERENT. I support you and your journey 100%...

GO CHECK IT OUT!

  4. Hi Christian, I'm looking forward to watching the show and I'm optimistic that your episode will show how natural attachment parenting really is, not "extreme" at all. Best wishes!

  5. Just watched you guys agonize over chicken pox...you live in Florida with lots of international (read possibly un-vaccinated) travelers coming through...maybe instead of googling "why not to vaccinate your children" you should google "why to"...working in the medical field I've met parents who've buried their children to preventable childhood diseases...it's awful.

  6. Christian,
I am in Woodstock GA watching your episode right now! My husband and I are attachment parents as well and it is so refreshing seeing like minded people on television! I am actually working on opening a baby store in my area because it is needed and I want to open the eyes of mommies to other ways of parenting! We had a home birth with our little man and participated in the Big Latch On!
Thank you for being such a light in the world! If you have any advice for opening a store or classes I would really appreciate it!

  7. Watching your episode right now!! Love it! Since my only child is 9 now and I knew nothing as a 19 year old mom about attachment parenting, natural birth, breastfeeding and many other things it makes me sad that she didn't get those things early in life. But I can't wait to do those things with our next babies!!! Thanks so much for putting it all out there and being so passionate about it all!
    Thanks!

  8. Congrats on breastfeeding your child past one year. This is hard to do and there have been studies that prove this is better for your child.

There have also been countless studies about the benefits of vaccination - please take some time to read up on it. What would you do if your unvaccinated child exposed a helpless infant to a needlessly deadly disease because people like you don't vaccinate.

  9. Hi Christian,
Just watched your episode and I was so inspired. I chose a natural drug free birth and am breast feeding my baby who is now 7 weeks old. I hadn't considered some of the other parenting choices you explained such as baby wearing and cosleeping but after seeing how happy hour daughter is, I am excited to look into your parenting style. Thank you for putting yourself out there.
